Safety Glass in Critical Locations

It is a legal requirement to fit safety glass in critical locations to all replacement windows, doors and replacement panes of glass.

The below diagram shows the critical areas where safety glazing, for example toughened glass, must be used in new and replacement glazing installations.

The price of any safety glass where legally required will be included in your quote as standard for replacement windows and replacement double glazed sashes.

Marking
Toughened Glass must be permanently marked to show compliance with the appropriate Standard and Building Regulations. The following is an example of the marking. The marking is typically shown on the left corner of the glass plane.

Note:
Safety glazing is only legally required where a glass pane is either replaced or a new window is fitted. It is not a legal requirement to replace existing glass planes that are already in a critical location.

Further information can be found at the Glass and Glazing Federation.
