I live in a conservation area / listed building, are you able to help me?
We have extensive experience of dealing with clients in both conservation areas and listed buildings and are happy to talk you through the various limitations and restrictions. In particular we have detailed knowledge of working within the Crown Estate and the restrictions this imposes.
I have single glazed sash windows, can I replace these to double glazed sash windows?
Yes. It is often possible to change just the sashes (the parts that move up and down) from single glazed to double glazed without replacing the frame. Alternatively the window can be fully replaced which would then be double glazed to comply with building regulations.
I understand there are different types of double glazing can you help explain the differences?
Not all double is glazing is the same and some provide more thermal insulation than others. We will happily talk you through the various options and benefits of differing glass.
Do you just provide any other types of windows?
We offer both sash and casement wooden windows.
Are you FENSA regulated?
Yes, we are a FENSA regulated company. Should you replace your windows you would be receive a FENSA certificate at the end of the installation, you would need to provide this certificate when you sell your home.
Are you windows guaranteed?
All our windows are fully guaranteed. This guarantee covers all parts including new joinery, glass and paint finish. Our guarantee is insurance backed by IWA who are underwritten by Lloyds of London
Are your windows painted?
All our new windows are fully painted and decorated. The paint finish is a special micro porous finish that allows the timber to breathe which will reduce the risk of rot, unlike standard oil paints the paint is less likely to blister and crack reducing the redecoration cycle.
What timber do you offer?
We offer both treated softwood and hardwood windows. The majority of timber used is FSC accredited and sourced from managed resources.
Do you offer any other types of glass?
We offer a variety of speciality glass types to improve security, safety, sound and thermal insulation and a range of frosted glass for privacy.
I would like to completely replace my windows, how long does it take?
This will depend on the quantity and size of the window, but as a general guide one window can be replaced within a day.
How much does it cost?
We are happy to provide you with a guide price over the telephone and if you would like make an appointment to visit and provide a full survey with a written quote shortly afterwards.
I have a few minor problems, broken glass, broken sash cords etc?
We provide a comprehensive service that includes everything from overhauling, draught proofing and minor repairs to full replacement windows.
Can you replace broken sash cords?
Unfortunately we are unable to just change sash cords as this is too small a job for us. Our minimum service is an Overhaul, Draught Proofing and New Window Furtniture.
Do you replace broken springs / spiral balances?
Unfortunately we are unable to repair or replace spring loaded or spiral balances. These are a modern replacement for cords which in our opinion are an inferior system and prone to problems.
Do you carry out commercial yes?
We provide both a domestic and commercial services. For commercial work we are able to provide a full Health and Safety Policy, Method Statements, Risk and COSHH assessments.
Are your carpenters employed or sub contractors?
For all our domestic work we only use fully employed carpenters who are covered by employers liability insurance.
Do you have guidance about how much replacing my windows will add to the value of my house?
It is difficult to put a specific figure on the value of putting sash windows back if they have been inappropriately replaced. However, if you live in an area where most of the windows are sash this does provide an indication that most people living there prefer sash windows. Having the wrong windows in your house is likely to have a negative effect on the value of your property.
